We took a ride north on Midnight Pass road...maybe 1.5 miles. There are great bike lanes in both directions and a sidewalk for walkers on the west side. The campground is close to the south end of Siesta Key...about a three minute bike ride. From the campground we rode north in search of civilization...stores, restaurants, etc. We found some and browsed through the shops. We also found Sea Club V, Pat's parents time share...since sold.
Of course we barged through the signs to check out the beach. Indeed, it is that soft, white sand and gently sloping beach...not just at the hotel but all of Crescent Beach that continues at least 1.5 miles north including a public beach...no reclamation work done here.
About a block north of Sea Club V there is a legal beach access with some parking and a bike rack. On Friday we rode up to this access and spent the day at Crescent Beach. We had lunch at one of the local establishments...I had a Cuban (combination of ham and pork, with mustard, pickles, and swiss...all pressed and browned) which I would recommend whenever you get within 100 miles of Fidel...they serve all the sandwiches with home made potato chips which are great.
So, I apologize for my hasty comments about the beach here. The beach at the campground is by no means bad and both beaches are definitely alright but Crescent Beach surely deserves it's #1 world rating.
From our camper at Siesta Key...yes that is the beach you see at the end of the drive.
